From 01.01.2026 with euro. A turning point in the history of Bulgaria
Adaptation of information systems: Adaptation of software is the backbone of a successful transition. “Information systems” refers to all software that processes financial information: ERP, accounting software, inventory management systems, sales, CRM, online stores and payment platforms.
Recommended action plan:
1. Analysis and identification: Make an inventory of all your systems that need to be adapted.
2. Planning: Contact software suppliers. Identify the necessary actions, resources, responsible parties and deadlines.
3. Adaptation and archiving: Take the technical measures. Key: Before converting your data to euros, archive the original data in leva according to data protection principles.
4. Verification and testing: Thoroughly check that all adapted systems function correctly, that the software works correctly with euros and that all databases with converted values are updated and verified.
The transition to the euro requires proactivity. Here are the main steps that every business should take:
1. Accounting preparation: Prepare a detailed plan for the conversion of accounting balances, assets, liabilities and equity, following official guidelines.
2. Technical preparation: Start the process of analyzing and planning the adaptation of your information systems in close cooperation with your IT providers.
3. Commercial preparation: Plan and prepare the update of all labels, price lists, menus, online stores and advertising materials.
4. Staff training: Conduct training for employees on the changes made to the information systems and the new rules for working with them.
Non-compliance with the requirements of the ZVERB will be monitored by control bodies such as the Civil Code and the National Revenue Agency, and significant sanctions are also provided for (Art. 55, Art. 59 of the ZVERB).
